Caring for Land and Lives

Community & Conservation

Creating a Safe Space

Africa's wild places are not ours to keep. They belong to the wildlife and the communities that have lived alongside them for generations. At Wilder, this belief shapes every decision we make, every partnership we form and every initiative we invest in. Operating responsibly is not optional but essential for preserving the natural world for years to come.

Community Upliftment

Wilder's connection to the local Maasai community goes back to the very beginning. From opening schools and donating books and equipment to employing locals and providing medical supplies, the aim has always been the same: to ensure that every guest who visits leaves a positive mark on the communities that call this land home.

One of the most meaningful expressions of this is the trainee programme at Ilkeliani, where young men and women from neighbouring Maasai villages are given hands-on training across various departments of the camp. Trainees spend approximately three months gaining real-world hospitality experience, building skills that open doors whether they continue with Wilder or move on to other camps in the region. The programme strengthens the bond between camp and community, creates economic opportunity that flows back into local villages, and fosters an understanding of wildlife and conservation that benefits everyone.

Pack for Purpose

Through Pack for a Purpose, Wilder invites guests staying at Entim Main Camp to bring small educational items such as stationery and books to be donated to the pupils of Molibany Primary School. We proudly support over 70 students aged 8 to 12 from villages attending the school, and guests who wish to deliver donations in person can do so, with transportation provided from camp to the school 30km away.

The Molibany School project, launched in partnership with the Satao Foundation, has added four new classrooms furnished with 200 desks and a library of new books, made possible by a donation of approximately USD 70,000. Over the years, guests have contributed a further USD 40,000 in books and equipment through this initiative.

Awareness in Action

Raising awareness among guests and local communities about the delicate balance of the ecosystems we share is at the heart of what we do. Every choice, however small, has an impact. Conservation publications, including those by Margot Raggett are supported by us, and practical sustainability measures such as a zero-plastic policy, solar power, and produce grown on site are implemented across our camps.

Ongoing Efforts

Solar systems are being installed to provide clean energy, while greenhouses on-site supply fresh vegetables to the camps' kitchens. Food and water donations are delivered to drought-stricken regions in northern Kenya, and driver-guides are equipped with Nikon cameras and professional photography training. Wilder also supports Maasai women through an income-generating charcoal briquette project, and a pipeline is being established to supply fresh water to the local community near Ilkeliani.

Responsible tourism is a pillar of the Wilder philosophy and every effort is a step toward a future where this land and the lives within it continue to thrive.
